Society is trending in the direction of a more permissive attitude toward cannabis, so it should follow that the legislatures and courts accept this shift and afford distressed cannabis businesses the same opportunities to reorganize or orderly liquidate just like other legal business entities.

Following the launch of Europe’s first medical cannabis Exchange Traded Fund (ETF), which aims to provide targeted exposure to the rapidly expanding medical cannabis industry, there is renewed interest and buzz in the European cannabis market for investors on a domestic and global scale. Whilst there is recent news of major North American cannabis companies undertaking cost reduction exercises, this is reflective of rapid expansion being curtailed to drive profitability, and also something the market has been expecting. The cannabis sector will evolve as the regulatory landscape develops.
